Kentucky Jelly

The absent mindedness of our geriatric patients could be extremely funny. For instance, I once had a patient who came from Kentucky. She was visiting her son for the weekend in Colorado, but decided to check in to the ER because she was feeling extremely light headed, and refused to believe it was just stress from the flight. I began treating her first by giving her a hot, breakfast meal. The entree included scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, and buttered toast as unfortunately, the cafeteria was out of jelly. Yet, when I came in to check on how she was, I found the toast with a spread of jelly on it. I asked her where she found it from, and she proceeded to explain how she retrieved it from the drawer, but she didn’t really like the taste. Curious, I asked to see the packet and she handed me the foil, and in thick letters the packet read:

“KY Jelly.

What a great way to start the day, huh?
