How does my day go? Well, I’m an early riser so I get up at 6, have my first coffee by 7, and I’m at work by 8. The thing is though, those are all during the night time. I sleep when the sun comes up. I’m not allergic to it, nor a vampire or anything. Someone needs to do the job and today (and for the last several years I might add) I am that someone. Yes, I work final, third, or night shift at the hospital. That means my job is to watch the peaceful sleeping bodies and try not to think about sleeping myself.
It’s not all bad, there’s no traffic on the roads on my way to work, and for the most part, there is a tranquility about everyone being asleep and you being the only person awake that is hard to find in any other situation or scenario. That doesn’t mean it’s all good either.
Try having a social life when you sleep from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. It will be virtually non-existent. This social life includes your children, and your significant other if you have those. Times spent together are reduced to off days (if you can manage to stay awake on off days because truthfully they are off nights) Never even mind being social, try getting some good sleep with the sun up, noise everywhere, and it being smack dab in the middle of the daytime hours!Like
